Keep or Leave: A Major Decision Point for Business Owners

About This Learning Lab

At some point in the lifecycle of a business, an owner must make a crucial decision—one that affects the business, family and employees. Do I stay and reinvest my time, energy and money in taking the business to the next level? Or do I leave and move on to the next stage of my personal and professional life? The decision to keep or leave a business should be equally a business and personal decision. Too often, business owners decide to stay in the business solely for personal reasons, such as a fear of losing income, a lifestyle, or their identity as a business owner. Finding that balance and making sure that their personal financial future coordinates with the future needs of the business is vital for a successful transition and a happy retirement. This session will share a process for helping business owners make this crucial decision while providing advisors with the action steps to help owners be successful with the decision they make.
